Street Talk
Summary
What innovation-technology or otherwise- would make any city a substantially more livable place? This was the question that writers asked urban leaders and their own readers. The answers they received were very innovative and are simple enough to do right now. One answer came from Craig Braquet, stating that, " Communication is at the heart of the future... Our cell phones can become devices that are able to open the door to our home, pay for our bus, make purchases at the store with a tap and a password, and give us unfettered access to the internet." Most of the world have and use cell phones on a daily basis. If we can implement cell phones in a beneficial way to us and our society, it would vastly improve our lives without sacrificing anything. Another innovative idea from a reader was re-configuring cities to have all resources within walking distance to create a car free zone. This not only would be more convenient for people, but would help bring down the carbon emission in the atmosphere. Most of the solutions stated on the column are fairly simple and low cost. If we can get everyone to orientate their current way of thinking to a new, modern way, we can see positive changes on our planet.
My Reflection
This article was very interesting and got my attention from the beginning. I like the way the column was written, not in paragraphs but in little bubbles with people's ideas. The way the column was written was creative and enhances the idea of creativity in the article. Most of the ideas proposed were very simple and required little to no sacrifice. What is holding us back is ourselves and we need to progress as humans and take on a new mindset of thinking. After these innovations are put in place, we will never go back to our old ways because of the benefits we will receive for ourselves and also the environment. We have a mindset as a race to think about winning in a sprint rather than a marathon, but once we change that, the possabilities for future innovations are endless.
